Absolute Links
A HYPERLINK is a set of directions that tell the browser to open or display something. There are four types of
hyperlinks that you can make on a page:
1. An Absolute hyperlink to another page to another web site.
2. Relative hyperlinks to other pages within your web site.
3. A hyperlink that launches an Email program on the user's computer.
4. A link to a Named Anchor at a specific location on the current page.
Hyperlinks are created with ANCHOR elements:
<a></a>
The anchor tags surround the text to click to perform the hyperlink.
ABSOLUTE LINKS:
An absolute link will open up another page from the web. An example would be:
<a href="http://yahoo.com">Yahoo!</a>
which would produce the following in a web browser:
Yahoo!
The text would be a click-able link to the Yahoo homepage.
href in the anchor tag stands for "hyperlink reference". The name of the URL must be enclosed in quotes. You must include the http:// part. To be safe, just copy/paste the URL from the browser window where the site is displayed.
Remember also to close the anchor tag.
**SPECIAL NOTES:
1. If you want the target website to open in a new window when the link is clicked, insert this code into the anchor tag:
target="_blank" as in...
<a href=http://yahoo.com target="_blank">Yahoo!</a>
2. To have a link change its color when it has been visited before, insert this code into the BODY tag at the top of the page:
vlink="?"
where ? is the name or code for the color you want. For example:
<body vlink="blue">
2. To change the color of an unvisted link, insert this code into the BODY tag at the top of the page:
link="?"
where ? is the name or code for the color you want. For example:
<body link="purple">
