Magazine Deconstruction
Look at the image below. Using the deconstruction handout in the resources section, take notes on what you observe. Then write at least a 1/2 page summary of your
evaluation of the media piece following this format:
1. Identify what the writing is about. We did a deconstruction of a New York Times Magazine image.
2. Describe the image with detail. Imagine you are telling someone who can't see what the image looks like.
3. Discuss the meaning of the image. Talk about symbols/metaphors implied by the image and techniques used by its creators to get that message across.
4. Relate your personal reaction to the piece and/or your reaction to the deconstruction activity. Justify your position.
