Principles of design
What are the principles?
Contrast: the use of opposing elements to highlight dissimilarity.
Repetition: duplication of elements for emphasis and/or unity.
Alignment: arrangement of elements such that everything is visually linked to something else.
Proximity: putting related elements together and unrelated elements farther apart.
Task 1: Review this presentation
Click here for an excellent PowerPoint on design principles and their effective use. Really spend some time here exploring the effects of the design choices demonstrated. Comment in a SHARED GOOGLE DOC at least 5 times. Include statements about good design but also more personal reflections such as "I was surprised by...", "I was reminded of...", and "I enjoyed...".
This is a good video summarizing the CRAP Principles of Design.
Task 2: Create a new example

The owner of the business has not yet designed a logo for the name but knows that she would like it to display a lot of contrast. DO NOT STEAL IMAGES FROM THE WEB. YOU MUST CREATE YOUR OWN, ORIGINAL LOGO USING PHOTOSHOP!
The following information must be present in the advertisement:
REMEMBER TO CONSIDER THE PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN!
Hand in all work done in the process as well as the final piece.
Conclusion
Task 4: Reflect on the design process
In a shared Google Doc, write about the process you went through in solving the "Idea Miner" problem. How did you develop your ideas? What struggles or frustrations did you face? What did you learn from the experience...about design or about yourself?
