Character Design

MakeHuman Software
MakeHuman is a free open-source character generation software. With it, you can create lots of different humanoid meshes that you can export and then import into Blender to animate as you see fit.

A word of caution though. MakeHuman is somewhat anatomically accurate. Approach the software with maturity or we will not be able to continue using it to create characters.

Additionally, there are add-ons (like clothing and accessories) that you can add to your MakeHuman resources.

Assets can be found in the MakeHuman Community pages.

Here's a tutorial on how to download the resources and install them into your MakeHuman software. In short, here are the steps:
1. Download all the files for the resource you want, saving them on the desktop.
2. Open the local computer, navigate to Documents folder > makehuman > v1 > data > and the folder that is most appropriate for the type of resource you are installing.
3. Move the files you downloaded into the folder.
4. Restart the MakeHuman software.

You should export your finished character using the MakeHuman Exchange (mhx2) format.

To import, you will use a Blender add-on called MakeHuman: Import-Runtime: MakeHuman Exchange 2 (.mhx2). Once installed and enabled, you access the import button through the properties (N on the keyboard). There is a tab along the right-hand side of the viewport called MHX2 Runtime that has an import button.
