Types of Lights
There are 4 types of lights in Blender, in addition to controls over the lighting in the world settings:
1. Point Light
An omni-directional light pushing light in all directions. It's like a light emitted from a light bulb if the bulb where lighting in all directions including the base.

Emits a cone-shaped beam of light in a single direction like one would see in the theater.

Resembles a field of light generated from a uniform surface, like the light created by a television screen, a window or a cloudy sky.

Volumetric Lighting
Volumetric lighting is the type you would see if you were in a space with a lot of dust, mist, or smoke in the air. Here are some examples:
